- Jerry - Hopefully the print will be larger and darker, because it is difficult to read.
- John@BIP2 - Jerry - what you are viewing are pictures of the screens. And we grayed out some sections of some of the screen to highlight what was being discussed, so there may be some distortion in viewing them on the tour. We will work to ensure the font on the final product is 508 Compliant. Also, remember you can always change the font/text size settings in your browser to make it larger. Thanks for the feebdback.
- Lorreine - I still think it would be useful to be able to do an author, title, subject search from the initial search interface without having to go into Advanced Search.
- John@BIP2 - Hi Lorriene. I understand your concern. I have good news for you. You won't have to go to advanced search to do an author, title, subject search.
You may still do an author, title, subject, ISBN, etc. search in that single search box. Since all of those fields (and many more) are indexed and searchable in the single search box, you will still get the appropriate results. And when you combine that with the ability to refine your results by author, subject, status, format, etc, you can easily and quickly arrive at the same results.
I would kindly ask that when the new Book In Print is released you give the single search box a try, use in conjunction with the refine options and see how that compares in ease as well as in getting your desired results. Thank you for your comments.
- Beckie - I may have missed it - but when is this new version of BIP expected to release? I went through the tour - it looks awesome!
- John@BIP2 - Thanks for the kind words.
We are planning to launch the initial release of the new BIP in November 2008. It may not have all the highlighted functionality at that time, but the fundamentals of the search, refine and discover will be there. We will continue to add functionality in future releases until we get to everything highlighted here. Also, it is important to note that the current interface will be offered along-side the new interface for a transition period yet to be determined.
- Allana - Hi John, On the previous screen it mentioned that this interface will replace BooksInPrint.com & GlobalBooksInPrint. I didn’t see a specific mention to Patron BIP. Will this new interface also replace Patron BIP?
- John@BIP2 - Yes. The new interface will eventually replace the various Books In Print interfaces including Patron BIP.
- Kathleen - WHY is the print so tiny? This product will be most unappetizing to use.
- John@BIP2 - Kathy the current screen shot(s) are smaller than the actual size of the product (they were scaled so that descriptions could accompany them), so the font is not an accurate representation of what you will eventually see.
We will work to ensure the font on the final product is 508 Compliant.
Also, remember you can always adjust the font/text size settings in your browser to make it larger*.

*This method will work with the final product, but not with the screenshots found in the walk-through.
- Lucia - A default button to set the Most Popular Book to an audience level, so for example, for an academic institution Most Popular Book is set at \'Tertiary\' books (I think you use College) would be a very useful feature. Having scanned the tutorial - looks very useful for academic institutions, particularly the clouds and refine options. Great improvement!
- Rosy - I totally agree with both of the first 2 comments below, especially #2 about being able to search author, title, subject, or keyword from the first page without going to advanced search.
- Norma - This is the most hopelessly designed website on the net. I go round in circles trying to find the information I need and when I can read the script it tells me nothing of any consequence. I think you should start again.
- Fran - I agree with the others that the print is too small. Also, a simple search does me no good. I go straight to advanced searches most of the time.
I do like the \"Terms, Tags and Habits\" section. That may be a highly useful feature for me.
